About me

I began offering one-to-one Music lessons after graduating from The University of Huddersfield with a Music BA Hons in 2011. In 2014 I graduated with a PG-Cert in Music Education from Trinity Laban Conservatoire.

Since moving to Newmarket in 2015, I've been involved with several community music groups such as Newmarket Music Box and Music Builds Communities. Every other Sunday I lead MBC Band, a community band which aims to help all levels of musician improve at their instruments. I lead the Saxophone Quartet and teach one-to-one lessons at Soham Village College as well as from home.

My lessons have a friendly, informal atmosphere and are carefully tailored to the learning styles and goals of each student. I often put together bespoke arrangements for my students, and invent games to build understanding of various musical concepts. I can submit students for exams if this is the route they would like to take, and to date my students have a 100% pass rate for both ABRSM, Music Teacher's Board and Trinity exams.

Qualifications & Experience

I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Music Education, a Fully Enhanced DBS check and up to date Child Protection Training (which I am happy to produce evidence of upon request) and have taught students aged 3 to 83.

Many parents have remarked on my patience and ability to relate to students of all ages, which makes lessons fun and encourages pupils to reach their full potential. Particularly with children and teenagers one of my goals is to instil a high level of confidence, which helps them in many different areas of their lives (Click here to see how the neurological benefits of music education go far beyond the skill of playing an instrument).

Though I consider myself to be a teacher rather than a performer, I do occasionally play professionally for events (saxophone or clarinet). Contact me for further details.
